Orange and Black Forever

This week’s photo, taken March 17, 2017 at Richmond Beach Park in Shoreline, WA, features a male BLACK SCOTER, the smallest of North America’s 3 species of scoters.

Male BLACK SCOTERS are cool birds in my book because they sport my high school colors. Whenever I spot a male Black Scoter, I flash back to my days at San Mateo High School – “orange and black forever!”

Finding one in our county requires great commitment, when reported, drop everything and GO.
