Butter Butt

This week’s photo, taken today, December 24, 2015, from our bedroom window, features a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER in our backyard that’s flashing a bright yellow throat and a hint of yellow on its flanks. Yet, its namesake yellow rump patch (hence the popular nickname “Butter Butt”) is not visible from this angle.

  1. Chris says:

Quite a few of those around our area, but not as many as in the San Fernando Valley where the common name was “just another yellowrump”. They get a little more respect up here. Our hot news this week has been continuing Bullock’s and Orchard Orioles, hanging out in a Red Hot Poker plant at a local nursery. Bullock’s out of season, and Orchard way out of territory.

    Merry Christmas Joe.
